What We Do
Aloha! The Office of Public Health Studies (OPHS) at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa is part of the Thompson School of Social Work & Public Health. The mission of OPHS is to advance the health of the peoples of Hawaiʻi, the nation, and the Asia-Pacific region through knowledge, discovery, innovation, engagement, inclusion, and leadership.
Degrees offered include Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Public Health; Master of Public Health (MPH) specializing in Epidemiology, Health Policy and Management, Native Hawaiian and Indigenous Health, and Social and Behavioral Health Sciences; Master of Science (MS) in Epidemiology; and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Public Health (community-based translational research) and Epidemiology.
The most recent addition to degrees offered is the MPH (Distance Education/Online option) specializing in Health Policy and Management. This option is designed to provide individuals from the U.S. and the U.S.-affiliated Pacific islands with a broad background for professional practice in the field of public health at state, national and international levels.
The BA, MPH, MS, and PhD degrees are accredited as a public health program by the Council on Education for Public Health.
